The Kawasaki KX series is a line of motorcycles introduced in the mid-1970s. They were generally used as dirt bikes in motocross events, but some KX motorcycles are street legal. Identifying the model year is most easily accomplished by decoding the motorcycle's Vehicle Identification Number. VINs were standardized for all motor vehicles starting in 1980 and they hold a wealth of information, including when and where the vehicle was made, and even what number it was off the line at that location.
From the frame# it should be either 1975 or 2005. I hope you can take it from there and tell if its about 36 years old or 6 years old.

The year is the tenth digit of the vin/frame# A-1980 L-1990 Y-2000 A-2010 B-1981 M-1991 1-2001 B-2011 C-1982 N-1992 2-2002 C-2012 D-1983 P-1993 3-2003 D-2013 E-1984 R-1994 4-2004 E-2014 F-1985 S-1995 5-2005 F-2015 G-1986 T-1996 6-2006 G-2016 H-1987 V-1997 7-2007 H-2017 J-1988 W-1998 8-2008 J-2018 K-1989 X-1999 9-2009 K-2019 I dont see a list for the engine # though, the closest I see for the engine would be if you left out the 2nd letter, KX125KE00. was used from 94-97. So maybe somebody with more knowledge on the KX can clarify. If you misread the frame# and the tenth number/letter is an S not a 5, it would make more sense that its a 95 bike with the original motor.
And not an 05 bike with a 95 motor. The vin you typed comes up unknown, changing the 5 to an S comes up with the following 1995 KAWASAKI KX125 - VIN:JKAKXRK15SA006866 World region:Asia Manufactured in:Japan Year:1995 Make:Kawasaki Model:KX125 Body style:Moto Cross Drive type:RWD Cylinders:1 Cylinders.

KDXGarage - VIN Information VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) Information This information is about USA released Kawasaki dirt bikes. It may not apply to some models made before the early 1980's. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped into the frame's head tube, which is located behind the headlight / front numberplate.
The VIN code is 17 digits long. The first digit is the country code, which is J for Japan. The second digit is the company code, which is K for Kawasaki. The third digit is the vehicle type or manufacturing division.
I have seen 'A' on various KDX and KX models. The fourth through eigth digits show various features and styles of the vehicle.
An example is 'DXMD1' for the 1991 - 1994 KDX250's. The ninth digit is a VIN accuracy check digit. As stated on the back of some manuals, 'This digit in the frame number changes from one machine to another.'
The tenth digit is the model year. This does not indicate that the bike was manufactured that calendar year, but that model year. To help prevent confusion, the letters I, O, Q, U and Z are not used. For example, is that the letter 'I' or the number '1', is that the letter 'Z' or the number '2'?
Below is a list of letters and numbers, along with the matching year: A = 1980 B = 1981 C = 1982 D = 1983 E = 1984 F = 1985 G = 1986 H = 1987 J = 1988 K = 1989 L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 P = 1993 R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 V = 1997 W = 1998 X = 1999 Y = 2000 1 = 2001 2 = 2002 3 = 2003 4 = 2004 5 = 2005 6 = 2006 7 = 2007 8 = 2008 9 = 2009 The list then repeats with A = 2010 and so on. The eleventh digit is the assembly plant. The twelfth through seventeenth digits indicate the sequence of the motorcycle for production as it rolled off the Kawasaki assembly line. Last month I picked up a lovely 2009 KX250F, due to boredom (poor weather) I decided to look up my bikes VIN number. What's worried me is the 10th digit is a 'W' indicating my bike is a 1998 model. This is not a 1998 Kawasaki frame.
I'm 100% certain it's the correct frame. No doubts at all. The previous owner bought it from an established dealership in 2015 and was kind enough to give me all his paper work (receipt of purchase, servicing, rebuild etc) so I checked them out and the VIN checks out (with the 'W'). I've done a background check and the bike hasn't been reported stolen or anything like that So what's up with that? Have I got a shady bike or what? I appreciate any help with this.

How many digits in your Vin? It should be 16 or 17 digits, like most Kawi four strokes I've never seen a 'W' on any aluminum framed KXF - there is an 'M' however.
I wonder if the frame has been replaced with a non standard frame? Wrote: VIN numbers can not be changed with a replacement frame. The dealership has to stamp the same number into the replacement frame as the original and you have to show proof that the original frame was destroyed. I agree that there seems to be something odd going on with that frame as the VIN format is not dictated by the manufacturer, its a governmental regulation. Try to get a new frame out of Honda you have to submit to them proof of the old VIN or engine number then they will send a replacement with a new Mfg.
Issued number that is reported to the DMV. I check ORV VINs all day long. Some follow the 10th digit rule, but not all of them do.
Easiest way to do it is to call a Kawasaki dealer and have them run the VIN through their dealer system. Takes 5 minutes tops.
The only thing I can think is that they omit some characters from VINs in order to avoid any confusion when reading them (like 'O', 'I', 'S', etc.). This means that they could potentially be back at the 'W'. The computer system we use will automatically populate what make/model a bike is when the VIN is entered.
Some bikes will enter in as a 1985 instead of a 2005 because they have the same 10th digit. So, since it's been almost 20 years since 1998, it makes sense that they would have made the full revolution around the alphabet and are back at 'W' again.
